My kind of town

I still can’t believe that ‘My Kind of Town’ lost out to ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee’ for a musical score Oscar.

Chicago or ‘The Windy City’ – just look at the flags ! is impressive no matter what angles you view it from. However the most impressive thing to me is on Wacker Drive just across from Union Station and is the Sears Tower (or should I be politically correct and say Willis Tower as it is now officially known).

I remember studying the architecture of Chicago at University and as one of the world’s tallest man-made structures the Sears Tower (I will always refer to it as that) for me always stood out (or should I say stood up) as a most impressive feat of engineering.

I don’t know whether it is the size or the shape or even just the colour of the glass that makes it so awe inspiring but it is a fabulous building and today it has stood the test of time being that today is it’s birthday, today it is it’s 39 years old and still doesn’t look the slightest bit dated.

So for me of all of the cities in the States, because of the Sears Tower, Chicago will always be one of those that stands out, it will always be “My Kind of Town”.
