Weird…I’m suffering from writer’s block. Rather ironic that I’m posting this but I don’t mean about Blogging but instead about actually writing.
I decided after a bit of prompting that it is this morning that I should start to write a book. Now I know I’m not literary genius (well I may be, just that like other would be writers in that I’m an undiscovered one) but I have decided to give it a go anyway. I guess it is a better use for my time than accessing Stumble Upon.
I mean how hard can it be…there are literally thousands of books out there…actually probably more like a googolplex (look it up on google or ask your daughter/son)…and although it may get easier the more you do, one at some point must have had to have been the first for the author (and before any feminists get on their high horse that term like ‘actor’ is not purely meant as male terminology but is omnisexual as I have an equal high regard for the female authors out there – aside from Sue Townsend as I couldn’t stand the Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 & 3/4 – sorry Sue but just didn’t do it for me).
So back to me…and my book.
The first thing I had to think about is what genre to write in…Fiction/Non-Fiction…Adult/ Children…in English or ..(well it has to be English unless my potential audience were seeking the world’s shortest foreign language novel). This was more difficult than I first thought and I hadn’t even broached the subject of content yet.
Or was I going about it the wrong way…should I be thinking of content and then deciding what genre to put it in. Always good to put the first few words down to set the scene for what’s to come…but how do I start ?
‘Once upon a time’….now having seen it written down it looked so cliche so that’s out – damn I was going well for a moment.
So ten minutes into my new career and I’ve already got writer’s block.
Guess the Booker Prize may not be coming my way after all.
